Big Picture
The best thing about IUB are the choices. But the one thing I would change would be equal financial aid to programs. I believe some programs, such a business, recieve more money, whereas other programs do not get that same luxury. I think IUB is a little too big, but this fact does not bother me. When people find out I go to IUB they are suprised becuase most people imagine me going to a small fine arts school instead. I spend most of my time in my dorm and classes. I go out on weekends but I stay fairly close. I have a problem with the administration and the weather here. There have been many days that school has continued even when there is a thick layer of ice on the ground and people are falling and hurting themselves. The most recent controversy on campus has been the scandal and firing of Kelvin Sampson, the boy's basketball coach. There is a lot of school pride here. Everyday I will be walking to class and notice a bunch of students wearing IU shirts.
Academic Life
I do not know my professors by name sadly. As of now, my least favorite class has been Calculus and my favorite is still to be decided. I think students study more than most people think. I think we study at least 6 hours a day. Class participation depends on the class and the teacher I believe. I have been in a class where the teacher was dull and therefore students were not engaged. But with the right teacher, students really do get more involved. Since I am a dance major there is not as much actual homework, which is nice, but there is a lot more time that must go into it. With rehersals, we dance AT LEAST 16 hours a week, sometimes more. This makes me even more tired, on top of my limited sleep. I think the education at IUB is geared more towards just learnign then actually putting yourself out there, which is very problematic for me.
Student Body
I have not have any experiences wiht racial, religious, LGBT, socio-economic or other groups on campus. I think that students that are not willing to accept other would feel out of place here. Most students were jeans or sweatpants to classes. Most people don't care if they look nice during the day when they are in classes. I do believe that different types of students interact, so it is less like highschool in that sense, but I still think that people stick to where they feel most comfortable. Most IUB students are from Indiana. I think most of the people that came to IU are well off financially. I also believe that most students are politcally aware and active, and those who aren't will be the ones that never are. I think most college campus's are fairly liberal, but since Indiana is such a conservative state the campus is more towards the center. Money are earnings are not exactly a prodominant subject on campus, for me anyways.
The Best Things
The best thing about IUB is the freedom and opportunity here.
The Worst Things
The worst thing about IUB is scheduling of classes.
