Mission
School mission: Sierra Nevada College, located on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, is Nevada's only 4 year, private, residential, liberal arts college. It promotes lifelong learning with close faculty-student interaction. Sierra Nevada College offers more than 30 undergraduate majors, minors, and concentrations in addition to a combined teacher licensure and Master of Arts in Teaching program in elementary and secondary education. With a liberal arts education, students have the opportunity to experiment in other areas of interest - taking a class in sketching, testing research in a chemistry lab, or exploring their musical talent. The goal of a great liberal arts college is to craft a curriculum that ensures students are exposed to the best of human thought and ideals. At Sierra Nevada College, we combine this liberal arts education and professional preparedness through an interdisciplinary curriculum which emphasizes environmental, economic, cultural and educational sustainability. We prepare our students to think critically and communicate effectively in order to pursue a lifetime of achievement and success. Our faculty is driven and committed, intent on finding new and effective ways to energize learning and engage students. Close personal attention is always available. And in our campus environment, where professors and students really interact in each other's lives, sharing ideas is a pastime that goes on throughout the day. Sierra Nevada College is an incredible college in an incredible setting. We live among majestic mountains, breathtaking wonders, four-season recreation, plus a family of students, instructors and staff composing a learning community with diverse backgrounds and a common interest in an uncommon educational environment. The campus is surrounded by the Lake and national forests, as well as pristine wilderness areas. SNC athletes have a unique opportunity to take advantage of amazing skiing and riding conditions on the greatest terrain in the west. Through out the year, students can also pursue other outdoor endeavors such as backpacking, rockclimbing, mountain biking, wakeboarding and river rafting. The college athletic program focuses on promoting the ski and snowboard teams as well an evolving outdoor adventure program. Our goal of being the best at what our environment offers can be seen with the success of our ski and snowboards team, and the growing demand for our outdoor program. Our backyard is a great playground and SNC students take advantage of it every day. Sierra Nevada College's Lake Campus has six buildings - two residence halls, a dining hall, a library, an administrative center for student services, and the Tahoe Center for the Environmental Sciences, a world-class center for research and education designed to support programs that help protect the quality and future of environmentally-threatened lakes and watersheds. Our students hail from across the U.S. and the world, drawn by our educational offerings and recreational opportunities. With ski-lodge inspired architecture and dorms that would put some hotels to shame, our campus projects an inviting space in which students come together and make friendships that last a lifetime.
