Huntingdon College

Located in the historic Old Cloverdale neighborhood of Alabama's capital city, Montgomery, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Huntingdon College offers Old South charm with New South sizzle. Founded in 1854 and grounded in the Judeo-Christian tradition of the United Methodist Church, Huntingdon is a coeducational liberal arts college committed to nurturing growth in faith, wisdom, and service and to graduating individuals prepared to succeed in a rapidly changing world. The College motto is "Enter to grow in wisdom; go forth to apply wisdom in service." Huntingdon's full-time day students benefit from the Huntingdon Plan, which includes a laptop computer provided for each student for use during all four years of study, theirs to keep at graduation; travel-study, with most costs included in regular tuition and fees, as an option for each student's junior or senior year; hands-on learning through internships, student teaching, service learning, student-faculty research, and/or Capstone courses in selected majors; personalized advising and faculty who know and support student success from the PACT (Practicing the Art of Critical Thinking) program forward as part of the "Know and Be Known" atmosphere of Huntingdon College; and opportunities to lead and to serve in clubs, organizations, and activities. At Huntingdon, students discover what they are called to do with their lives, as well as where their talents meet the world's needs, through broad exposure in liberal arts courses, living and studying in community, and encouragement from professors and advisors. Faith, Wisdom, and Service are hallmarks of the Huntingdon experience. As a college of the United Methodist Church, Huntingdon students are supported in their spiritual journeys and are encouraged to grow in mind, heart, and spirit through uplifting campus ministry programs. Service in and for the community is part of nearly every student's experience, from planting and harvesting crops for the Montgomery Food Bank to working with disabled children in the Montgomery Area Non-traditional Equestrian Program, and dozens of other outreach programs. Huntingdon offers over 20 majors, as well as teacher certification programs, pre-professional advising programs, and a myriad of clubs and organizations, academic honoraries, NCAA-III intercollegiate athletic teams, Greek life, and visual and performing arts programs. Much emphasis is placed on life after Huntingdon College. Placement rates into graduate and professional schools are as high as twice the national averages. The College's Center for Career and Vocation offers a wide range of services to prepare students for and help students through the job or graduate school search process. Tradition and folklore add much to the Huntingdon experience, from the famous "Red Lady" ghost stories to much-loved occasions such as Homecoming, Reunion, the Oracle Hunt, and a plethora of concerts, convocations, performances, and student life programs, Huntingdon students find they are part of a continuum connecting the past to the future.
