Houston Baptist University is a Christian liberal arts university dedicated to the development of moral character, the enrichment of spiritual lives, and the perpetuation of growth in Christian ideals. Founded in November 1960, HBU has grown into a thriving community of faith and scholarship during its first 50 years.

The mission of HBU is to provide a learning experience that instills in students a passion for academic, spiritual, and professional excellence as a result of the central confession, "Jesus Christ is Lord." Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, HBU offers exceptional academic programs and signature courses designed to help students gain wisdom and perspective. The University's core curriculum is based on an enduring classical liberal arts foundation. At HBU, students take part in a great conversation - addressing questions about human nature, morality, law, ethics, community, government, and the nature of truth - that has been going on for centuries.

Students can choose from more than 40 undergraduate and 10 graduate areas of study offered through the University's College of Arts and Humanities, College of Science and Mathematics, Honors College, Graduate School, and Schools of Business, Education, and Nursing and Allied Health. HBU serves a broad range of undergraduate and graduate students from every social and economic background. Its diverse student body reflects the unique demographics of the Houston metropolitan area, enriching academic and social experiences on its 150-acre residential campus in southwest Houston.

Under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Robert B. Sloan Jr., HBU is making progress on many of the key initiatives in its unprecedented vision for higher education in America - The Ten Pillars: Faith and Reason in a Great City - that boldly promotes a biblical worldview in a world-class city. With the continued implementation of its Ten Pillars vision, HBU is poised to become a leading institution for Christian higher education in America by preparing the next generation of faithful leaders to excel at thinking carefully and critically, to demonstrate integrity in their daily lives, and to see their faith as being important both to their behavior and their way of thinking.
