| School mission: | Northern Kentucky University (NKU) was founded in 1968 and is part of the metropolitan area of greater Cincinnati. NKU is a learner-centered institution committed to lifelong public access to education with an emphasis on high quality, affordable education. Thirteen major buildings are of modern, contemporary architectural design and are set on 398 acres of rolling countryside. On campus, construction is complete for the new Student Union building which features a grand ballroom, food court, lounges and game rooms. Adjacent to campus, the Bank of Kentucky Center, a 9,400 seat arena and convention center is finished being built. Both the new Student Union and Bank of Kentucky Center opened in Fall 2008. NKU has an enrollment approximately 15,000 students and employs about 900 full-time staff and 500 full-time faculty. NKU offers 70 bachelor's degrees, 6 associate, 20 graduate, 1 juris doctorate and 1 doctorate in education leadership. NKU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). There are more than 130 student organizations and NKU Athletics competes in the Great Lakes Valley conference. |
