| Mission | |
| School mission: | Greensboro College is primarily an undergraduate college, offering graduate programs in three areas. Several academic programs are designed to enhance the liberal arts curriculum at Greensboro College. Realizing the transition from high school to college can be a challenge, the college developed the First-Year Seminar program. This seminar is the cornerstone of our support structure for new students. The two-credit, First-Year Seminar course takes an experiential approach in introducing the student to the value and meaning of a liberal arts education, the academic skills needed to be a successful college student and the importance of being an active community member. The George Center for Honors Studies offers an honors program that is designed for students who have high levels of intellectual ability and motivation. Other programs include the Writing Across the Curriculum, provides extensive reading, writing, listening, and speaking in every discipline; Ethics Across the Curriculum, established to foster discussion about ethics everywhere on campus; Leadership Development Program, offering opportunities including leadership symposia on critical topics and Emerging Leaders Program to help students develop skills as effective leaders and gain confidence in their abilities. A distinct feature of the College's location is that we share a common zip code, 27401; thus, the name Village 401. Working closely with businesses, schools, agencies and organizations within Village 401, the college provides opportunities for students, faculty and staff to assist the community in meeting some of its challenges and needs while enhancing liberal arts education with community service. In addition, Religious Life offers an array of opportunities that support and strengthen the spiritual development of all who are part of the Greensboro College community through the academic curriculum and student religious organizations. |
