Mission
School mission: Mesa State is the fastest growing four-year college in Colorado and yet maintains a small class atmosphere while holding the cost of tuition down. Students value the personal education experience that cannot be found at larger colleges and universities. Founded in 1925, Mesa State College is a comprehensive, liberal arts college offering programs at the master, baccalaureate, associate degree, and certificate levels. Mesa offers a variety of educational choices. Professors are here because they love to teach. They know their students and establish relationships that last long after students enter the workforce or have gone on to earn graduate degrees. Our students have very diverse backgrounds and come from over 40 states and several foreign countries. Located in the beautiful high-desert country of Western Colorado, the surrounding area provides unmatched year-round outdoor recreational opportunities - from mountain- biking to whitewater rafting to alpine skiing -and much more. With an area population exceeding 116,000, you'll have the amenities of a big city without the hassles of heavy traffic, crime or crowded airports. Quiet residential neighborhoods, lively restaurants, coffee shops, and retail stores surround our campus. Within walking distance is one of the city's largest parks. New capital construction projects on campus include a soccer field and a two story parking structure. A new student center, expansion of the student recreation center and new dorms are currently under construction. Recently completed projects include a new classroom building with state-of-the-art classrooms and a new residence hall. The existing student recreation center includes a climbing wall, the latest in exercise equipment, a modern weight room, intramural gyms, racquetball courts, and an indoor exercise track. Mesa State has a wide range of financial aid packages available to students, including academic and leadership scholarships, grants, student loans, and work-study awards. Scholarships are also available in a number of sports and fine arts. Mesa State is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and has regularly achieved national ranking in several NCAA Division II sports.
