Big Picture
What I love about GT is that it's right in the middle of Atlanta, so you can see a beautiful skyline over the campus, but when you're on campus it's easy to forget that you're in the middle of a huge city because it really has it's own little community and lots of green space; it's really the best of both worlds. Football season is really huge in the fall and going to the games is sooo much fun! I had so much fun my freshman year because i lived in a freshman experience dorm, so almost everyone kept their doors open all the time and we were all really good friends, so i would recommend doing FE if you get the chance.
Academic Life
In freshman classes, most of the professors won't know your name or even your face b/c lectures can have 200 people or more, but in smaller classes, like english and your major-specific classes, it's a lot easier to get to know the professors. My favorite class was probably inorganic chemistry, but that's explained by the fact that i'm a chemical engineering major, but my least favorite class was a 3 way tie between computer science, biology, and physics. Study habits at tech are a lot like they were in high school, everyone pretty much crams a night or two before the test. People study a bit more in advance for finals, but still it's all pretty last-minute. A lot of times, especially in math and science classes, it seems like the professors are trying to prove to you that you're not as smart as you think you are and that they know more than you do rather than trying to help you learn, but almost all classes will have a huge curve at the end. Even if the prof says that won't curve, they can't really fail everybody or they would be put on probation, so just study really hard and it'll probably turn out alright. It is really stressful sometimes, though, b/c you never really know what grade you have in your classes until the very end.
Student Body
There are many different religious groups represented at tech - in my apartment there are two christians, one jew, and one muslim and we're all best friends. I don't think anyone would feel out of place at tech. We've got a little bit of everything from popular girls to frat boys to nerds to kids born in the wrong decade to athletes. Different types of people definitely do interact for example, in my freshman dorm, we had every type of person you could think of from classic tech nerds to gamers to sorority girls to druggies to varsity athletes to band kids and all of us were basically best friends by the end of the year. Most gt students are from georgia, but there are a fair amount from out of state as well; since it is a very well known engineering school, it draws in a lot of out of state-ers. Students are very aware that, coming out of gt, they can make a lot of money, and there are often heated debates about which major will make more money out of college.
