It utilizes a 4-1-4-based academic calendar. Eckerd College's ranking in the 2014 edition of Best Colleges is National Liberal Arts Colleges, 141. Its tuition and fees are $37,362 (2013-14).

Located in the city of St. Petersburg, Florida, the waterfront campus of Eckerd College overlooks Boca Ciega Bay on the western coast of the state. Eckerd College offers about 40 undergraduate majors and does not have master's degree courses. Through the Eckerd College Program for Experienced Learners, working adults can earn bachelor's degrees by taking courses online and at times that fit around their busy schedules. The program also allows adult learners to take entire courses in eight weeks by meeting once a week for five hours in the evening or on weekends.

Students at Eckerd can stay busy outside of the classroom by exploring the International Cinema Series and various art exhibitions, theater performances, poetry slams, writing workshops and guest lectures. Much of recreational life at Eckerd College is based on its waterfront location. That ocean theme includes the name of its varsity sports teams, the Tritons, which compete in the NCAA Division II Sunshine State Conference. Students can also get involved in the Eckerd College Search and Rescue Team (EC-SAR), which works closely with the U.S. Coast Guard and responds to distress calls in the area.

School mission and unique qualities (as provided by the school):

Eckerd, a coeducational college of liberal arts and sciences, has a diverse student body from forty-seven states and thirty-five countries. Located on 188 acres of waterfront property in St. Petersburg, Florida, we take advantage of our spectacular mile of campus waterfront along the Gulf of Mexico for outdoor laboratories in biology, marine science and environmental studies as well as for an array of intramural, club and intercollegiate sports and water recreation. Offerings in the arts and humanities inspire creativity and foster critical thinking and self-awareness.

A proud signer of the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment, Eckerd is dedicated to minimizing its operational footprint and maximizing sustainable practices. Eckerd's Community Garden contributes to our "Eat Local" initiative, and our Yellow Community Bike Program is designed to increase bicycle use on campus and decrease car traffic. In addition to being "green," Eckerd students are service-oriented, volunteering more than 70,000 hours annually in the Tampa Bay community and across the globe.

Eckerd's innovative 4-1-4 calendar gives students the opportunity to study abroad during the January Winter Term or semester-long programs. Nearly seventy percent of our graduates have spent at least one term overseas, many at Eckerd study centers in London, China and Latin America.

The Academy of Senior Professionals draws distinguished persons who have retired from the fields our students aspire to enter. Academy members such as Nobel Prize-winner Elie Wiesel enrich classes and offer valuable counsel for career and life planning.

We venture together in the Eckerd experience to think beyond the conventional questions, methods and solutions. At Eckerd College, we ThinkOUTside.
