The best thing about Creighton is that professors genuinely care for their students. The school is small, but I like it that way. Reaction to my going to Creighton? That's kind of superficial. I hang out in the dorms or not on campus at all. Omaha is one big suburb, which is not so fun. There is the slowdown and the old market, but those get old. Creighton's administration is okay. They care about the students, but they make it hard to take the right classes. They don't let the homosexual community voice its opinions. Instead, they say that it is not the Catholic stance, but they still allow non-Catholic homophobes to spout hate to the campus. Tobacco ban is the biggest controversy. Creighton does it to preserve an image of a progressive-family friendly school, but they really don't care about people's welfare. It's merely to make itself (Creighton) look better. There is a lot of granfalloonery and no karas (read Vonnegut). No nothing unusual about Creighton. A prototypical school for prototypical people. I would change Creighton's image consciousness. I hope that it will be comfortable with who it is.
My favorite class is Greek 303. It was fun and I learned a lot. Least favorite is Kestermeier's English 120 class. He is a terribly unlearned man. For an English professor, he knows little to nothing about English. Students study a lot, which sometimes is a shame because they miss out on life. They are focused too much on grades and not enough on learning and experiencing life. Class participation is dead; no one cares about learning. Most Creighton students only talk about getting drunk or what sports team is winning. some students focus on things that matter. Students are competitive for grades, which means they don't help other students they merely try to get the best grade instead of gaining knowledge. Unique would be Greek 303 which was prose and comp. Everyone in the class was nice and talked about interesting things. We read a lot of Plato in the original Greek and wrote our own sentences in Greek. I'm doubling majoring in Greek and English. The classics at Creighton are very good. English not so much. Creighton is a pre-med or business school. I guess, rereading my diatribe, I would say getting a job, which I think is unfortunate.
CREIGHTON DOES NOT HELP THE GLBT COMMUNITY WITH ITS RIGHTS. EVERYTHING HOMOSEXUAL/BISEXUAL/TRANSGENDERED IS FAR UNDERGROUND. Everyone is the same. If you think for yourself, are open to other culture, respect humanity, want to learn about people, then you will feel out of place. If you only care about hollister, dip-snapping, college sports, getting drunk, money, then Creighton is the place for you. Students wear whatever is fashionable at the time. Students are sectionalized and tend to stay in catty groups. Creighton is uber-conservative.
The Best Things
The flashes of intellectuality in the darkness of frat ignorance.
The Worst Things
Most of the student body.
