Big Picture
Conn is a very small school (around 1900 students), but this can be both a good and a bad thing. It's good because it leads to smaller classes and an easier environment for making strong friendships. However, I have found that small size has given Conn College the feel of a "high school atmosphere on a college campus." When you see the same people walking around campus everyday, you quickly get sucked into a gossip machine that spreads every occurrence on campus like a wildfire in a dry forest. This atmosphere has been facilitated by an website called ConnColl Confessional, where students can post anonymous comments about anything they so desire. It is a prime example of something that was created with the best intentions, but it has turned into a place where students can plug into the gossip machine without anyone knowing their indentity! It's also resulted in some very hurtful personal attacks being made against specific students by unknown attackers. So I'd say, come to Conn if you're looking for a close, tight-knit experience, but don't be surprised if the social atmosphere resembles that of the school you just graduated from.
Academic Life
Academics at Conn are amazing. Sure some departments are better than others (the science departments are probably the best...I swear I'm not a science major or anything...), but overall I'd say most students couldn't be happier with the course of study they've chosen. I have enjoyed my classes so far, not only because each of my professors knows me by name, but because they have been engaging, challenging, and even, dare I say, fun!
Student Body
Well if the social atmosphere resembles that of a high school, what do you think our main dining hall looks like everyday? Yeah, the groups here are pretty damn defined. And also, conservative/republican viewpoints don't seem to be too popular around here, so if you're a fan George W., you might not want to let anyone find out about it.
The Best Things
The excellent academics are definitely the best part of Conn College.
The Worst Things
The intense social gossip that happens all the time around here can get pretty mean-spirited.
