CUS has a great campus, and it is getting better every year. The school could be downsized a bit due to the lack of 'personal' interaction you could be getting at a smaller school. I spend the majority of my time in my dorm room or in the library. The largest controversy I have seen on campus this year was when our local newspaper (the Collegian) put *** BUSH as the healine. That raised all hell. There really is a lot of school pride, which is suprising because it isn't that amazing of a school. You don't come across a lot of complaints up here.
As a freshman and having an open option major, the professors most definitely don't know your name unless you have a reason for them to. The entry level classes hear exceed 100 students per class. My favorite classes are Astronomy and Drawing with DaVinci. My astronomy proffessor really gives you a sense of he cares and wants you to learn as much as possible no matter what your abilities are. My Drawing class really opens my eyes to different ways of thinking suprisingly. Also there are only ten students in that class, so the personal level with the professor is high. Students can most definitely get competitive, whether it being the best procrastinator or the highest ranking in class. I do not believe CSU is geared toward either getting a job or learning. I believe CSU is a place where children go because their parents told them to and are paying for their education.
CSU is most definitely lacking in the diversity section of its student body. There are many groups geared towards specific groups but the member numbers are low. A student who has their mind set on experiencing the world would feel out of place here. The majority of people I run into lack in the longing to get out of their little 'bubbles'. Most students call Colorado their home and are a very privelaged kind of people. Students will hands down pretend they are politically aware but once you start delving into the topic they turn their heads and talk about how much they hate a certain class.
