| School mission: | Queens University of Charlotte is a private master's level university that is committed to liberal arts and professional studies. It serves 2,300 undergraduate and graduate students through six schools and colleges including its College of Arts and Sciences, McColl School of Business, Presbyterian School of Nursing, and Hayworth College for adult and evening programs. In 2008, both the Wayland H. Cato Jr. School of Education and the School of Communication were opened. Queens was founded in 1857 and celebrates its Presbyterian heritage. Queens is thriving, boasting five N.C. Professors of the Year on its faculty and 16 NCAA Division II men's and women's athletic teams. Its nursing school produces the most registered nurses of any private university in the state. The last two freshman classes have been the largest in 30 years; a testament to the university's commitment to providing a world class education in an intimate, challenging setting. The student/professor ratio is 12 to 1, which fosters meaningful student-teacher relationships. Queens' innovative Core program in the liberal arts challenges students to expand their analytical and critical thinking skills, and has received accolades from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Special centers for Ethics & Religion and Entrepreneurship encourage students to expand upon classroom learning through special programs including mentoring. The university offers 36 majors with more than 50 concentrations, and nine graduate programs. Queens' exemplary international study and internship programs have been ranked among the best in the nation. More than 90 percent of undergraduates study abroad and 100 percent complete internships. The university is still growing, with the recent addition of a new, 65-acre sports complex and plans for a new sciences and health building in the next few years. Major improvements to campus facilities have been completed or are underway including residence hall and dining hall renovations. |
