| Mission | |
| School mission: | Why did a recent book on international education call Dickinson "perhaps the most internationally minded" college in the United States? This was because of the college's 42 international programs abroad and the way in which a global awareness is furthered throughout the curriculum. Dickinson faculty teaches students to cross boundaries between academic disciplines and to engage the wider world. Backed by a network of accomplished alumni, Dickinson graduates venture into the work world with an education that translates into a competitive edge and a mandate to lead and make a difference. Its founder, declaration of independence signer, Dr. Benjamin Rush, wanted Dickinson to be different from the 15 colleges that preceded it in this country by offering an education not for its own sake, but to be useful in furthering a just democratic society. This was articulated in Dickinson's 1783 charter and remains essential to the college's mission today. |
