| Mission | |
| School mission: | In keeping with the university's commitment to small classes and personalized instruction, science students conduct original research with faculty members in their areas. The results of these research projects are routinely submitted to competitive scholastic organizations like the Texas Academy of Science. Howard Payne students routinely achieve recognition in these forums. The university is committed to providing learning outside the classroom. Students across the academic disciplines engage in competitions for creative awards. Participation in Model Senate, Model U.N., Student Speakers Bureau, forensic competition, and intercollegiate student government organizations are examples. The Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom, our widely-acclaimed honors program, produces innovative leaders in law, politics, business, ministry, government, medicine, education, psychology and social work. Students in our pre-law program prepare for law school by participating in Moot Court where they have won numerous awards while competing against some of the largest universities in Texas. The School of Christian Studies sponsors a Youth Ministry Workshop led by veteran youth ministers from across the country. Our students receive valuable insight and make contacts with professional mentors and role models who are serving in the field. The university theatre program engages students from all academic disciplines. Because Brownwood is a regional cultural center, these performances are community-wide events. Music students perform junior- and senior-level recitals that draw audiences from across the campus and the community. Art students' creative works also are shared campus-wide and made available for public viewing. Professional education in business, teacher education, and social work prepare highly marketable graduates. |
