As the comprehensive public university of Southeastern Massachusetts, Bridgewater State University has a responsibility to educate the residents of Southeastern Massachusetts and the Commonwealth, and to use its intellectual, scientific and technological resources to support and advance the economic and cultural life of the region and the state.

Bridgewater's growing number of innovative academic programs helps to ensure that Bridgewater State University students are prepared to think critically, communicate effectively and act responsibly within a context of personal and professional ethics. For example, BSU's Academic Achievement Center, and particularly its first-year advising program, is often cited as a model for other institutions to follow. At the same time, the Adrian Tinsley Program for Undergraduate Research represents an unparalleled opportunity for students to work closely with faculty mentors and to present research and creative work at regional and national conferences.

While maintaining its historic focus on the preparation of teachers, Bridgewater State University provides a broad range of baccalaureate degree programs through its College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Bartlett College of Science and Mathematics, College of Education and Allied Studies and its Louis M. Ricciardi College of Business. Bridgewater State University offers 32 undergraduate academic programs with 90 different areas of concentration as well as internships, research programs, study abroad and honors programs.

Bridgewater is a leader in the adoption of technology for instruction and administration. Through its extensive information technology resources, the university makes technology an integral component of teaching and learning and serves as a regional resource on technology in higher education, K-12, and government and business settings. In addition to enjoying a fully wireless campus, our students and faculty benefit from having cutting edge educational technology in all classrooms, and from extensive computer support services.
Bridgewater State University competes in NCAA Division III athletics in both men's and women's varsity sports with state-of-the-art athletic facilities.

Bridgewater State University has over 90 clubs and organizations. There are three sororities, four fraternities and one co-educational fraternity offered at BSU. Bridgewater State University Student Government Association (SGA) is an organization of students which represent the Bridgewater State University community. Through SGA, the student body can express their academic and social wants and needs.
