Originally known as Central Mennonite College, Bluffton is affiliated with Mennonite Church USA. For students interested in participating in activities away from the classroom, there are more than 40 extracurricular organizations on campus. Spiritual life is very popular at Bluffton, and many students take part in the Spiritual Life Week events that take place each semester. The Bluffton Beavers are members of the NCAA Division III and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, and the school fields 14 varsity teams that compete. Students looking to visit a larger city for the day only need to travel an hour north to Toledo, Ohio or 90 minutes south to Dayton, Ohio.
When students are admitted to Bluffton University, they are expected to follow an honor code that is central to the core beliefs of the university. This system includes having no monitor in the classroom during test and examination periods. On every examination paper, the student is required to sign a contract that states they received no aid during the test. The university houses three graduate programs including a master’s of business administration, master’s of arts in organizational management, and master’s of arts in education. Bluffton seeks to encourage students to explore vocational choices as callings through their Pathways to Mission and Vocation program. It allows students to research futures in church vocations while pursuing their degree.
