Museums or special academic buildings on campus Thomas Merton (1915-1968), known in religion as Father Louis, was a Trappist monk of the Cistercian Abbey of Gethsemani near Bardstown, Kentucky. The Merton Center, located at Bellarmine University, has grown to over fifty thousand items, including the literary estate, fifteen thousand pieces of correspondence, nine hundred drawings and eleven hundred photographs. It is the largest Merton collection in the world.
