| School mission: | Wangari Maathai, class of '64, made Benedictine College the only small Catholic, college in America to boast of a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. With consistent scores in the top 5% of colleges and universities on the National Survey of Student Engagement, Benedictine is fast-becoming the school of first choice for high school students throughout the Midwest. Its unique Discovery Program offers students across all 36 majors an opportunity to do research or creative projects outside of the classroom in an effort to add new knowledge to their fields of interest. The residential, four-year, liberal arts college is located on a 110-acre wooded campus overlooking the Missouri River in Atchison, Kansas and is dedicated to the education of men and women in a community of faith and scholarship. In the 2008-2009 Academic Year the college celebrates in sesquicentennial (150 years) with a year-long celebration. |
