Founded in 1935 and situated on the Atlantic coast, Armstrong is a dynamic public university with more than 7,500 students from across Georgia and 69 countries. Its location, just 15 minutes from historic downtown Savannah and 25 miles from Tybee Island beach, makes this 268-acre arboretum campus a popular destination for students who seek a unique college environment that brims with learning and career opportunities.
Armstrong offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate academic programs in its College of Education, College of Liberal Arts, College of Science and Technology and the College of Health Professions, one of the leading undergraduate health professions education centers in Georgia. The university also offers a Doctorate of Physical Therapy.
Armstrong students enjoy small class sizes where they learn from talented and dedicated professors who serve as mentors and partners in research, while providing connections that lead to internships and career opportunities. Motivated students find the Honors Program both challenging and rewarding. Armstrong offers diversity in both its student population and experiences, and Latino student programs here have received national recognition.
Outside the classroom, students conduct research in local marshlands and waterways, find internships at nearby historic sites and participate in study abroad adventures that span the globe. With more than 80 student organizations and a full array of recreation and wellness programs, students find ample opportunity for activities, leadership and service to the community. Recent additions to campus include a new freshman residence community and an expansive student union.
Armstrong Pirates athletic teams excel in Division II Peach Belt play, winning seven conference championships in 2011-12 in men's and women's tennis; men's baseball; women's golf, soccer, softball and volleyball. Intramurals and club teams like ultimate Frisbee are popular on campus.
