Arkansas State University—Jonesboro is located in the northeastern corner of the state, about 80 miles from Memphis. Students at Arkansas State, often called ASU, can choose from more than 40 degree programs in nearly 150 fields of study, including master’s programs in business and health. The school also offers about 130 online courses and more than 180 evening classes. At Arkansas State, students may enroll in the Structured Learning Assistance (SLA) program, which offers additional academic support for difficult classes that tend to give students trouble. Student athletes can try out for the Arkansas State Red Wolves varsity athletic teams, which are members of the NCAA Division I Sun Belt Conference and compete in about a dozen sports. Notable Arkansas State University alumni include Rodger Bumpass, who voices the character Squidward on Nickelodeon’s Spongebob Squarepants animated television show.

Overview
Arkansas State University concluded its centennial year in 2010, celebrating 100 years in northeast Arkansas. ASU began in Jonesboro, Ark. in 1909 as an agricultural high school and has since developed into a comprehensive university offering top-quality academic programs to students from throughout the United States and the world. More than 13,000 students attend the university, which includes students from 68 foreign countries.

Academics
Arkansas State University's 11 colleges offer 43 degree programs and 146 fields of study at the doctoral, specialist, master's, bachelor's and associate degree levels. The university is the state's leading provider of nursing graduates. In addition, ASU has top-ranked programs in journalism, radio-television and speech communication. Degree programs in nursing and health professions are greatly in demand and ASU has clinical affiliations with more than 500 healthcare facilities. ASU offers management education including international business, technology, entrepreneurship, and economic development through action-based learning. Most of ASU's faculty hold the highest possible degrees and are recognized leaders in their fields. ASU is also home to the state-of-the-art Arkansas Biosciences Institute, where undergraduates can conduct cutting-edge research.

Student Life
Students will find more than 300 campus organizations, more than 20 men's and women's intramural sports, 20 national Greek organizations, seven men's intercollegiate athletic programs and nine women's intercollegiate sports.
There's always something to do at ASU, whether it's just hanging with friends at the Student Union, grabbing a bite at the food court, working out in the Red W.O.L.F. (Wellness Opportunities for Life Fitness) Center, catching an athletic event or seeing exciting programs and concerts, including poets, athletes, dancers and musicians from symphony orchestras to legendary bluesmen. ASU offers choices for on-campus living. From traditional residence halls to garden apartments, each residence hall offers a unique living environment, including first-year residence experience, co-ed and single-sex halls, sorority suites, and family housing. ASU also offers the Honors Living-Learning Community (HLLC). The HLLC is composed of three separate residential buildings and an Honors classroom that creates a distinct sense of identity for Honors students, while signifying ASU's continued commitment to quality education. The HLLC lets Honors students thrive in a residential environment designed with their educational pursuits in mind. Athletics
The ASU Red Wolves compete in NCAA Division I-A, the top level, with 16 intercollegiate sports. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf and track-both indoor track and outdoor track. Women's sports include basketball, bowling, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor track, outdoor track, and volleyball.
