Big Picture
There are so many great things about ASU. The students are nice and there's a lot of things to do. The classrooms are a bit too large, but I believe it's being worked on. Students in engineering spend most of their time in the engineering library doing homework or at the many local bars. The biggest recent controversy was cheerleaders posing provocatively in lingerie. They're getting rid of the cheer squad and picking up a tamer "Spirit Squad." Students complain about everything, but that's our right. We'll always remember our friends. There is a tremendous amount of school pride.
Academic Life
Students in engineering study a lot. We are all laid back and know how to have fun, but we all know that the homework has to get done. There are no free rides. We have fun doing homework in groups in the library. In upper level classes the intructors know your name. They usually would like if you go to their office hours so they can get to know you. Class participation is so uncommon the instructors have to ask if anyone doesn't understand to get a response. The education in the Mechanical and Aerospace department has improved greatly with some recent changes in many of the classes. It is now more geared toward getting a job than learning for its own sake.
Student Body
Engineers do talk a lot about how much they'll earn one day. In the entire campus there are people from all over the world and of all types. Everyone gets along and no one feels left out. When engineers hang out for lunch we are all just engineers no matter what you look like or who you are. Every political spectrum is also represented.
