Colleges in Arkansas

There are dozens of colleges and universities located throughout Arkansas and in cities such as Fayetteville, Fort Smith and the capital of Little Rock. About half of the colleges and universities in Arkansas are publicly funded, including schools within the University of Arkansas and Arkansas State University systems. A mix of private liberal arts colleges – predominantly religious institutions – and midsize universities are also located in Arkansas. Residents of Arkansas can attend select colleges and universities in 15 states, including Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi, at the in-state tuition rate through the Academic Common Market; however, they must enroll in an approved degree program.
