Conveniently located in the center of Texas, Angelo State University has been recognized by Princeton Review as one of the top four public universities in the state and among the best in the nation. ASU offers 45 undergraduate degrees with more than 100 majors and concentrations plus 23 graduate degrees on one of the state's safest and most technologically sophisticated residential campuses. Half of ASU's students are first generation and more than a quarter are Hispanic so the university, a Hispanic Serving Institution, is attuned to the needs of those segments of the student population. Angelo State University provides a quality education at an affordable cost and maintains a superb record of sending graduates to success in medical, law and professional school. ASU maintains strong academic programs in traditional fields such as agriculture, teacher education, nursing, business, physics, biology, mathematics, psychology and history while developing such innovative offerings as computer gaming design, computer science, criminal justice, security studies and border security. Funded by an $98 million endowment, the Angelo State University Carr Scholarship Program is one of the largest scholarship endowments at a regional university in the U.S. Carr Scholarships benefit one of every six ASU students. Additionally, ASU offers its Blue and Gold Guarantee program for students from low income families. The 268-acre Angelo State campus is known for its safety and its modern recreational, housing and academic facilities. ASU boasts a new Student Recreation Center that opened in 2011, a modern University Center and one of the best multipurpose arenas in all of NCAA Division II athletics in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena. Some of the most modern residence halls on college campuses anywhere are found at ASU where three-quarters of the beds are in residence halls completed over the last 12 years. The Learning Commons in the Porter Henderson Library opened in 2011 and augments the Math/Computer Science Building and various science facilities across campus.
