| Mission | |
| School mission: | Excelsior College provides global access to quality higher education for adult learners, helping them to overcome barriers of time, distance, and cost. With more than 32,000 students and 126,000 alumni, the College is nationally renowned for its facilitation of degree completion and its advocacy on behalf of adult learners. A nonprofit institution since 1971, Excelsior College awards degrees in 27 programs and five credit-bearing certificate programs through its schools of business and technology, health sciences, liberal arts, and nursing. Our Center for Professional Development provides career advancement programs in a variety of fields. The School of Nursing, which advances students along a continuum of rigorous nursing education, was designated a 2008-2011 National League for Nursing Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, one of just 13 such centers in the nation. In addition, 25 percent of Excelsior College students are active duty and reserve military personnel, earning degrees on bases in the U.S. and abroad, in war zones and on navy ships around the world. Military Advance Education magazine has ranked Excelsior College among the top 20 colleges serving the military for the second year in a row. Excelsior College students have educational paths that are as unique and varied as they are: one quarter of the students are from diverse groups, and Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education ranks Excelsior in the top 100 colleges for enrolling the most Hispanics. The College assists students with college costs at both undergraduate and graduate levels, by maximizing military education benefits, participating in the federal student financial aid programs and offering institutional scholarships to students who demonstrate financial need. A new Military Spouse Scholarship Program was also established in 2008. Excelsior College draws its full-time and adjunct faculty members from distinguished colleges and universities nationwide, as well as from industry and the professions. The College faculty and caring, professional staff help working adults overcome barriers to achieving personal, professional, and academic success. Accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Excelsior College also holds specialty accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET. Excelsior's bachelor's degrees in business are recognized by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education. |
